WhiteA - Final Live Tour 2020 Countdown: 2 days to go

Day 2 of the countdown.

Today I'll talk about the few MVs WhiteA have up on their YouTube Channel.

1. NEW PHASE

While this is the first MV they have available on their channel, it was by far not their first song. NEW PHASE was the title track of the first "Mini Album" the group released and presumably a 'new start' for them as a group after sixth member Kenta had to leave the group in 2018.

The guys shared some episodes from the shooting of the MV, saying that the schedule was extremely tight and that they were exhausted from dancing again and again almost through the night. If you look closely, they said, you can see that they're all sweaty and gross in some of the shots because they had done a dozen takes for the dance parts.

A random story from the shoot was Daichi and Kouki going out to eat gyudon (Japanese beef bowl) together for the first time (?) afterwards.

I like the song because it has a good beat and rhythm to it. Again, though, what resonated with me for some reason where parts of the lyrics.

Killing time on endlessly repeating days
What should I do?
I want to break free from this loop
Break out of it like a monster

It has a very positive message to it despite being all 'gangsta' as some of the older generation (which I am part of har har) might say.

2. Yukidokei (Snow Clock)

In complete contrast to NEW PHASE stands the titular song of WhiteA's first single "Yukidokei" (lit. Snow Clock). This song was written by lead vocalist Takuya and is a bittersweet love song.

Despite the sad undertones of the song, I really like listening to it. It calms me down, although, it does make me sad at times, too. It's a complicated relationship.

What I also like about this song is the fact that there is no rap part and all three vocalists of the group get 'pure' vocal parts only. It highlights their voices really well and underlines the stylistic variety that you can find in the group.

There is also something about the very expressive choreography that shines through at times. It might not be as clear in the music video (or maybe clearer since there are close ups) but it comes through during live performances.

3. Brand New World

Last but definitely not least is "Brand New World", which is actually the first original group song WhiteA performed in front of people when they started their activities. It is also the song played after almost all their YouTube videos.

It is a special song to both the group and the fans. And really, it feels a bit like it was the 'anthem' of the group with it's main message of: "Do not give up, no matter what happens. If you believe in a limitless future you will be able to move on."

Brand New World is definitely a 'pick me up' song. It's not my favourite but as mentioned before, it has a special spot in my heart because of its significance. And to be honest, it's what all the fans are clinging onto now with the hiatus.

Actually another MV had been in the queue to be released this year but due to Yasupon's hiatus and now the group's hiatus that was pretty much put on ice. WhiteA asked fans which song they wanted to get an MV for next and the result of the vote showed that a majority wanted: Dare yori suki da to (Even though I loved you more than anyone else), another starting days song and love song.

Please check out the MVs on YouTube and show the group some support with your views if you can!

Thank you for reading.
