WhiteA - Final Live Tour 2020 Countdown: 1 day to go
The beginning of the end starts tomorrow.
In today's countdown post I will introduce some of my favourite YouTube videos posted by the group over the course of the past 1 year and 2 months.
Let's End Johnson!
レッツエンドジョンソン!
WhiteA's YouTube Channel is called the ShiroA Channel (shiro = white).
ShiroA is the affectionate nickname that both the group and fans use and it helps to distinguish the group from the basketball move for search engine searches - at least in Japanese.
The videos available on the channel (over 370 of them I reckon) can roughly be sorted into the following categories:
1. Dokkiri (pranks)
2. Music Videos
3. Live Videos
4. Live Streams
5. "YouTuber" Videos
6. Dance Videos
7. ASMR Radio Episodes
WhiteA is well known for their prank videos and the guys love to play pranks on each other (even off camera). It will thus shock nobody, that the most viewed video on their channel is a prank video. It's also on my recommendation list.
The infamous "BL Prank Video":
The story behind this video is that (former) member Yasupon saw a similar prank on a TV show and suggested it to Daichi (who was the member responsible for the group's YouTube channel). Daichi liked the idea and roped the other members into it on short notice.
He talked to Junya about doing it the day before and then the two of them plus Takuya set up the cameras for a test and then set things up for the prank the next day, when Kouki would be coming to the "ShiroA House".
The result is a true masterpiece. Looking back at it, the guys said that it was so successful because back then none of them thought about whether or not they were getting pranked or not. While these days, they would definitely think of situations as that as being fishy and they have gotten into the habit of looking for cameras when something seems off to them.
(For those of you who're interested, I do have subtitles for this video but to be honest, it's pretty self explanatory even without subtitles lol).
If you're here for the BL bait, I promise there will be more videos in that category later. So uh, please keep reading? ;)
Just the guys hanging out and having fun:
I like this video because of it's "simplicity". It's nice to just watch the guys having fun and walking around and doing 'normal' things. The purikura part is my favourite because it's hilarious.
Another reason why I really like this video is the location where they shot it. The AEON Laketown Mall is a place I have many good memories at, both with WhiteA (one of the first places where I got to see them) and without. Being familiar with the location definitely adds to the attachment.
Another video where you can just watch the guys having fun and being themselves is on of the two New Year's video from 2020.
In this video, the guys go to a temple early in the morning on January 1st to do their customary New Year's Greetings ("Hatsumode") after their Countdown Live Concert (who needs sleep anyways, right?).
The guys talk about themselves and their relationships with each other as being a family. They have also affectionately dubbed fans the "ShiroA Family" (and this will be featured on their tour goods for this final tour). And this relationship between them really shines through in these 'simple' videos.
[Daichi and I also agreed at events that these videos were definitely among our favourites. The beauty lies in their simplicity, can't say that enough].
Fun & Games:
The lyrics/melody switch game is an original game Takuya came up with. You sing the lyrics of one song to the melody of another song and the others have to guess which song you're singing (based on the lyrics).
It looks super fun and I'd love to try it at some point!
Bonus points for this video: Kouki being an adorable failboat in the end.
The guys played a handful of games on their channel as well and some of them look super fun! I'd love to try these out with some friends, too. On the top of the 'would like to try' list is this variant of the Jinro Game (or Werewolf Game).
Compared to the traditional version, you can play it with fewer people and it comes with a few fun twists in the form of new characters (e.g. DJ and Ghost) and slightly altered rules (every player gets 2 character cards and can choose one active character and discard the other - the discarded character can come back into play, though as the DJ has the ability to switch the two cards).
One of the fun parts about this video is Yasupon being well, Yasupon (aka a bit of a failboat). It also highlights some of the other guys' personalities really well.
The "Acting Game". I had seen this game played by others on YouTube before and it already looked super fun then. It requires a lot more Japanese skills than some of the other's, though so it might be a bit hard to gather enough people to play or it would have to be translated (would still work then).
Also, Yasupon being Yasupon in this vid as well cracks me up. Oh and Takuya without his customary styled hair. It's nice to see him with natural hair sometimes. It's a pretty rare thing!
Oh and make sure to watch the video until the very end!
The highlights of this video are not in the game segment to be honest but the 'comedy corner' at the end. Daichi kind of kills it.
Also Daichi, Junya and Kouki stealing Takuya's clothes and accessories XD
This video I enjoyed because it's a game I know and a game that comes from my home country. It's really fun and I have played it a couple of times myself. Watching Daichi and Junya play it against each other and listening to their running commentary is great and I think it's a nice insight into their friendship.
The "Earphone GanGan Game" (a game which is like silent post, only that you have your headphones on at full volume and thus cannot hear what the other person is saying, you have to try and lipread and then pass it on).
This is a game that became popular among young people over here a few years ago and WhiteA actually had one of these up on their previous channel that went down when they moved to the new one.
Even though it is a "Remake" it is still pretty hilarious.
This wasn't really a game but an "Experiment" that Daichi and Junya did. They wondered whether you'd get tired of laughing if you made faces at each other for an hour straight. So they (try to) make faces at each other for an hour straight. It's quite the face muscle workout.
I recommend the "Jounouchi Face" (aka Joey Wheeler for most American and European fans of Yu-Gi-Oh out there).
These 2 videos are the old and new versions of the "From 0 to 100" videos. The aim of the game is to make the two people watching laugh and thus spit out the water they're holding in their mouth.
It's quite spectacular. And yeah, my advice, don't drink anything while watching. Unless of course you want to try and participate, too.
The "Super Spicy Food Lovers Club":
3 out of 4 of the WhiteA guys love spicy food (all minus Takuya). They got challenged to try the spicy dishes at a restaurant in Ebisu called "Fire Garden". If they could eat it (without dying) they would get a 10,000 yen reward.
Will they rise up to the challenge or will they give up? Watch and find out.
A popular instant "yakisoba" (fried noodles) brand recently released a "extremely spicy" version of their product. So our spicy food lovers try it.
Who can finish eating the super spicy noodles the fastest?
Additional rules include: no drinks and you are not allowed to say "it's spicy!".
Best of "Dokkiri":
This prank is pretty damn mean but for some reason it's also heartwarming because as Daichi says, it does show what is called "Member Ai" (love and care among group members).
The premise is that Daichi had the flu and was down for a week. He's recovered now but he is going to pretend that he's feeling ill and will collapse during rehearsal. Takuya and Yasupon are in on it but Kouki and Junya don't. How will they react? Daichi thinks Junya will be seriously worried and Kouki will be at a bit of a loss and maybe a little panicky. Will Daichi's predictions be true?
Takuya pranks the entire group by pretending to not have a voice before their concert. The other members try their best to cover up.
He reveals that it's a prank only seconds before they go up on stage.
This prank made it into the favourites ranking of the guys themselves. It's pretty simple and yet funny. In terms of humor, I guess it has a slapstick kind of humor to it because it's pretty physical humor. If you know what I mean.
The idea: what happens if you smear the entire entry way with massage lotion/lube and your friend walks in?
According to the guys this was totally worth the hours they spent cleaning the entire mess up again afterwards.
Another member favourite as well is the "suddenly a ghost appears" prank they pulled on both Daichi and Kouki. Daichi was first and he is known for being the jumpiest in the group (I swear more than half of their TikTok videos are people jump scaring or startling Daichi).
This one's also well loved by the members and all of them were present when it happened in real life so it's become quite a fond memory for most of them.
I think one of the best parts here is that Daichi doesn't really get what's going on at first and everyone else is just cracking up.
"Please play a prank on me, you have about half an hour", says Daichi and then leaves Junya in the apartment. Junya then sets up his prank and waits for Daichi to come back. It's pretty simple but amusing.
Give us more BL:
Yeah, yeah okay so here you are ;)
"What happens if two guys drink an aphrodisiac and then take a bath together" is apparently what Takuya was wondering about so he gets Daichi and Junya to try it out for him and of course he captures it all on camera.
This was apparently inspired by an LDH TV episode (LDH is the agency that groups such as EXILE, GENERATONS and 3daime J Soul Brothers are under). You have to guess who's kissing you.
This was a game played by some "YouTuber Couples". One half of the pair wears a blindfold and the other half guides one of the partner's fingers to a part of their body. They then have to guess which part of the body they're touching.
Honorable mention in the BL section: The Halapeno Pizza. It's not really BL unless you count the last few seconds... although really it's not BL. Also Junya was pretty traumatized by that experience. The moral of the story here is that Takuya has an evil streak in him.
Also the Jenga games (1 in a separate video, one in the live stream from their 'Thanks to all our YouTube Subscribers' concert). There are kisses in both of them and in one of them Junya leaves a hickey on a certain member. ;)
Last but not least...
The "announced bag search". Daichi told the other members in advance that they'd be doing a bag search, so all the guys put some fun and random things into their bags. Hilarity ensues.
Daichi told me that he thinks that they could have done even better with this one, considering who they are but he was happy to hear that I enjoyed it all the same. (And maybe I enjoyed it all the more because it was the video that followed the hiatus announcement one).
Ack, I went 5 minutes over time.
Thank you for reading and I hope you check out some of the videos!
