Basement Boys - Blog
Welcome to the Basement Boys Blog.
If you're here you've either found your way over from The Basement Boys Base Website or you stumbled over this by chance. So, let me elaborate a little bit on the website title.
Why "Basement Boys"? (click to read more)
The site's main title "Basement Boys" is supposed to be a reference to the Japanese term "地下アイドル" (chika idol) which roughly translates into "Underground/Basement Idols", meaning idol groups (boy- or girl-bands) that have not made their 'break' yet and are thus still considered 'minor'.
The term is derived from the venues the idols perform at. While most major idol groups perform at large concert venues and big halls 'above ground', "Underground Idols" perform at live houses and clubs which are typically located underground in the basement floors (noise).
Originally the term apparently referred to girl idol groups only but more and more 'men's idol groups' have started to appear and thus the term is now used for both. Some people attribute this to the change in the 'men's idol' industry landscape, most notably a change in the status of "Johnny's Entertainment".
The genre of "Underground" can be considered as a sub-genre of "indies".
This blog will be mainly about two things: 1.) artists considered "Basement Boys", as the genre is not very well known among international fans and some information may be hard to come by as you need to go to the lives to get it and 2.) hopefully useful information about the genre itself, the events etc.
Feel free to hit me up with questions and comments if you have any!
